Weakness after illness or hospital stay

If you have been exposed to Covid-19 you may have spent time in a hospital ICU or isolated and bed bound, in your home because of the virus.  Individuals who have been exposed to the virus can experience any the symptoms that limit body function:

  • Body aches

  • Labored Breathing

  • Muscle weakness

  • Decreased energy

  • Vertigo, Dizziness, Lightheaded, Unsteady

  • Coordination

 

Individuals may also experience difficulty performing Activities of daily living :

  • Standing

  • Ambulating

  • Transferring

  • Ingress / Egressing car

  • Bathing, Dressing, and Grooming

 

The reduction in bodily function and activity level can hinder one’s ability to return to a normal participation level of:

  • Church

  • Family gatherings

  • Volunteering

  • Recreational and leisure activities

  • Fitness goals

  • Sport participation

Physical complications after COVID-19 can persist for months after a negative Covid -19 test, and can leave joint and muscle pain, deterioration and deficits in muscle strength, balance, endurance, and ambulation ability which can lead to a loss independence.   • Education: Energy conservation, Modification of activity

  • Therapeutic exercise and activities: Ambulation, Transfers, Total Body Strengthening, Balance         and Stretching

  • Manual Therapy: Chest wall mobility for improved respiration
